Event Round Up

Our adventurers loved the Gardens carnival as it was filled with all kinds of slides, rides, and food! Residents got to eat anything they wanted from cotton candy to deep fried Oreos! They also had a blast jumping through the 2-story obstacle course and riding the mechanical bull.
Ayy Elotes!
Residents were treated to some flavor from south of the border in the form of authentic street style Mexican corns on the cob along with refreshing horchata whilst listening to authentic Latin music on a beautiful Sunday. This event was thrown by RA's Maria and Rodolfo to celebrate Hispanic heritage month.
Soccer Try Outs
Residents from all Tropicana communities gathered to practice their soccer skills and break off in to teams to join the intramural league through UCSB!
Jiu Jitsu
RAs Ben and Brandon introduced our daring few to the amazing and incredibly difficult sport of Jiu Jitsu. Residents who attended got to know some moves including multiple takedowns, armbars, and other submission techniques. While learning some new moves they had many laughs and had the afternoon of a lifetime.

Flu Season
Tips to Keep Trop Healthy
1. Consider getting your flu shot: these are offered at local pharmacies like CVS and at Student Health on UCSB Campus.

2. Remember singing the ABC song twice while washing your hands in kindergarten? Now is the time to start singing again.

3. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water (especially before you eat). Carry a bottle of hand sanitizer with you.

4. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue if you cough or sneeze. If you don't have a tissue, sneeze into your elbow. Be conscious about not touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Don't take a sip out of someone's cup.

5. Keep a household disinfectant like Lysol or Clorox wipes on hand and use them to clean your doorknobs, remote controls, phones, keyboards etc.

6. Don't cuddle up to your BFF if they are ill! Symptoms of the flu include fever, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, chill and fatigue. Keep your distance and show your love by running errands for them.

Tutoring in the Café
Tropicana is proud to announce that our Tutoring Program is in full swing. Tutoring will be every night, Sunday through Thursday from 9:00-11:30 PM in the cafe.

Tropicana staff have been tutor certified through Santa Barbara City College. We are proud to assist our residents in a variety of subjects upon request. If you have questions or would like more information about the tutoring program in the cafe, please contact Area Coordinator Jesus Salvatierra This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Tutoring will be held Sunday through Thursday nights 9:00-11:30 PM. Study groups, as well as students looking for a different place to study, are welcome to join us as well!
Bike Registration and Parking
Please Lock Your Bike to a Rack
Transportation - Bike

If you haven't done so already, the Tropicana Management strongly encourages you to register your bike here at the building. Come to the desk with your bike's imprinted serial number and we can register your bike in our system and give you a bike sticker. The benefit of this is that if your bike ever goes missing we'll have your serial number on file, which can greatly increase the likelihood of finding it!

Please remember to properly park your bike in a designated bike rack and lock the frame of the bike to the bike rack. Bikes that locked to themselves (not the rack), or simply not locked at all, are more likely to be moved or go missing altogether, which could lead to the bike being impounded.
Café News
Sack Lunches and Late Night Dinners
You can eat as much as you want in the cafe as part of your unlimited meal plans long as meal s are eaten inside of the cafe. Residents can take out one piece of fruit, an ice cream cone, or a drink in their Trop Tumbler whenever the cafe is open. Residents can also request a Sack Lunch or a Late Night dinner ahead of time.

If you have sports practice, a class, or work during Tropicana's designated lunch time, you may fill out a sack lunch form at the café check stand by 7:00 PM the night before. You can pick up your sack lunch when the cafe opens at 6:45 AM. Late night dinners can also be requested at the check stand before 4:00 PM the day you would like to pick up your dinner. Please bring your class or work schedule when you make your requests, and please remember to pick them up if you order them!
