Event Round Up
Pie Your RA

Any resident who has had a loved one fight, lose, or win against breast cancer got the chance to raise funds to help find the cure to cancer by simply donating a dollar per pie to throw a plate full of whipped cream at any RA's face!
Spooky Pumpkin Patch
Residents took a break from their midterms and took a delightful trip down to the local pumpkin patch and got the chance to go through the corn maze and take fall pictures.
Candy Apples
Residents put their creative tummies to the test! There were so many different way to decorate their apples. Each apple was just as yummy and as unique as our lovely Gardens residents! Happy Halloween!
Pumpkin Carving
Our pumpkin lovers started off the Halloween festivities by carving their own pumpkin! These residents had some creative carvings!
Pinatas Para La Escuelita
Tropicana Villas and Tropicana Gardens volunteered their time to make piñatas out of scratch to donate to the local children in the Isla Vista community. The children wait in anticipation of the Safe Halloween event that the UCSB organization, La Escuelita makes every year. Tropicana provides one of the main attractions in that carnival. The residents had an amazing time expressing their creativity in crafting these piñatas for the children!
Ping Pong Tournament
Tropicana Gardens Residents came down to the Rec. Room for a Spooktacular Ping Pong Tournament on Saturday October 29th. 16 residents played an intense and close game for some awesome prizes.
Tricks for Treats
Residents got to show a talent or skill for them to get a tasty treat! We saw magic tricks, card tricks, and some gymnastics moves that gained a candy bar or cupcake!
Thanksgiving Break!
Fall is Flying By!
thanksgiving-dinner.jpg
Due to this National Holiday weekend - to eat turkey and go shopping, the operations at Tropicana are adjusted to reflect how most of our residents celebrate. Tropicana's café will close after 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 23rd and will reopen at breakfast on Monday, November 28th. These dates are outlined in your lease agreement.

We know that some of our residents are far from home and will not be able to travel home to be with their families. Every year many Trop residents invite their new roommates and friends from faraway lands to come home with them for the break. If you do, please take some pictures and share them on our Facebook page! This is an opportunity to share an American tradition with visitors.

If any of our international and out-of-state residents need to stay over at during this holiday or if you have an academic or work related reason to stay, please come down to the desk and complete an Extended Stay form. We need to know who will be in the building as we will be doing some projects during this period which may affect you. If we do not know that you are here over the holiday, you may find your key card does not work. If you ever need assistance during the holiday breaks there will always be on-site staff available to help when you call the Tropicana Gardens Duty Phone number:

(805) 637-5046

We're looking forward to all our residents having a happy, and well deserved, Thanksgiving Break!
Flu Season
Tips to Keep Trop Healthy
1. Consider getting your flu shot: these are offered at local pharmacies like CVS and at Student Health on UCSB Campus.

2. Remember singing the ABC song twice while washing your hands in kindergarten? Now is the time to start singing again.

3. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water (especially before you eat). Carry a bottle of hand sanitizer with you.

4. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue if you cough or sneeze. If you don't have a tissue, sneeze into your elbow. Be conscious about not touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Don't take a sip out of someone's cup.

5. Keep a household disinfectant like Lysol or Clorox wipes on hand and use them to clean your doorknobs, remote controls, phones, keyboards etc.

6. Don't cuddle up to your BFF if they are ill! Symptoms of the flu include fever, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, chill and fatigue. Keep your distance and show your love by running errands for them.

Tutoring in the Café
Tropicana is proud to announce that our Tutoring Program is in full swing. Tutoring will be every night, Sunday through Thursday from 9:00-11:30 PM in the cafe.

Tropicana staff have been tutor certified through Santa Barbara City College. We are proud to assist our residents in a variety of subjects upon request. If you have questions or would like more information about the tutoring program in the cafe, please contact Area Coordinator Jesus Salvatierra This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Tutoring will be held Sunday through Thursday nights 9:00-11:30 PM. Study groups, as well as students looking for a different place to study, are welcome to join us as well!
Bike Registration and Parking
Please Lock Your Bike to a Rack
Transportation - Bike

If you haven't done so already, the Tropicana Management strongly encourages you to register your bike here at the building. Come to the desk with your bike's imprinted serial number and we can register your bike in our system and give you a bike sticker. The benefit of this is that if your bike ever goes missing we'll have your serial number on file, which can greatly increase the likelihood of finding it!

Please remember to properly park your bike in a designated bike rack and lock the frame of the bike to the bike rack. Bikes that locked to themselves (not the rack), or simply not locked at all, are more likely to be moved or go missing altogether, which could lead to the bike being impounded.
