Many residents take the Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District (MTD) to and from school. With a SBCC student ID card, it is free to ride any MTD bus. A direct bus to Santa Barbara City College, the 15X line, runs every 30 minutes and takes around 20-25 minutes to get to City College. This bus stop is located on the Camino Pescadero side of Tropicana Gardens and stops right outside our building. UCSB students also have unlimited access to the bus with their current student ID, but most students tend to walk or ride their bike to class.
For shopping and entertainment farther afield, or for Santa Barbara Airport transportation, MTD offers convenient bus service to shopping centers to the west, to downtown Santa Barbara, and from the local airport. For more information regarding the bus, please visit www.sbmtd.gov. Students may also carpool with other City College students, which is another affordable way to get to and from school.
The Goleta Amtrak station is a ten minute drive from Tropicana Gardens. Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner runs from San Luis Obispo to the north and as far as San Diego to the south.
Santa Barbara Airport
We are 5 minutes by car from the Santa Barbara Airport, which is located adjacent to UCSB. The five major airlines that fly to Santa Barbara are American Eagle, Alaska Airlines, Frontier, United and US Airways.
